BMW opened its production plant officially in Chennai on 29th March 2007. A fully owned subsidiary of BMW AG, the company, headquartered in Chennai brought along and investment of Rs 1.1 billion. The BMW Plant in Chennai assembles the BMW 3 Series and BMW 5 Series Sedans in petrol and diesel variants and has a capacity to produce 3,000 units per year. BMW currently has a presence in 16 cities across India. The company surprised everyone by selling in huge number right from the time of the introduction of the brand and overtaking Mercedes-Benz, a well entrenched player in the Indian market in terms of sales. |
