Chevrolet
Although very few people about it, but Chevrolet, which came to India in 1928 was the first automobile company to open an assembly plant in India. The company had its first office in Mumbai (erstwhile Bombay) while the assembly plant constructed in Sewree. In 1952-53 General Motors India had to shut shop, along with other foreign car companies due to the prevailing policies of the prevailing government. However in 2003 Chevrolet Sales India Private Limited was established and the Chevrolet brand was re-launched in India. It is currently the 5th largest car maker in India after Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors and Mahindra, and has its plants in Halol, Gujarat and Talegaon, Maharashtra. |
