Overview:
In January 2009, Mahindra & Mahindra launched its latest diesel-driven Multi Utility Vehicle (MUV), Xylo. It is a combination of sporty, impressive exteriors, spacious, comfortable interiors and a lot of safety features. It was first called as ‘Ingenio’, but later got the name ‘Xylo’ along with good technology and performance. It is a luxurious vehicle that attracts everyone with its commanding road presence. One can easily travel any length of distance comfortably in this “sedan” along with a large family.
Design and Features:
The exteriors of Mahindra Xylo make it look bold and aggressive. The sleek front grill with upper brow styled head lamps, the body coloured bumper, the wrap-around tail lights, the tubeless tyres and the double-coloured rear view mirror enhance the beauty of this car.
The interiors of Xylo are very spacious with a lot of head room and leg room to all of its occupants. A large boot space and enough storage spaces are also offered. It features a well defined central console with space for CDs and magazines, digital clock, MP3 CD player. Two mobile charging points are offered for the passengers of the front and the middle rows. The Air Conditioning system offers uniform cooling throughout the cabin. Foldable flight trays are also present in the rear part of the front seat. Roof console for spectacle holder is provided only in E6 and E8 variants.
The features that enhance safety of the passengers of Xylo are its tough body, crumple zone, engine immobilizer to prevent theft, tilt steering column and seat belts. The intelligent reverse assist system that displays the live image of the parking area on the navigation screen is available only in the top-end variants-E6 and E8. Anti-Lock Braking System (ABS) is offered only with the E8 variant.
Driving abilities and comfort:
Xylo can comfortably accommodate eight passengers. It perfectly suits long journeys. The spacious cabin, the power adjustable steering wheel, the height adjustable driver’s seat, the flat bed front seats and the foldable rear seats increase the driving ability as well as the comfort of the occupants of Xylo even while traveling through the rough roads. The High Ground clearance of 185mm helps tackle the roads with ease. The double wishbone type suspension with anti roll bar at the front and multi link suspension with coil springs in the rear add to the comfort of the occupants on the bumpy roads. The lumbar support can also be adjusted to three positions which give perfect driving position. The illuminated keyhole ring helps to locate it even in the darkness.
Engines:
The Xylo comes with a 4-cylinder mEagle diesel engine developed on the NEF CRDe platform. It is the same engine used in the Bolero Storm with a different tune up. It pumps out a maximum power of 112bhp @ 3800 rpm and a torque of 24 kgm @ 1800-3000 rpm. It features a five-speed Manual transmission. It accelerates from zero to 60 km/h in just 6.7 seconds.
The m-Eagle engine has a revolutionary engine technology. It has Dual pilot injection which increase the drivability and helps deliver greater power output and enhanced fuel efficiency. Advanced engine damping, hydraulic lash adjustor technology and auto belt tensioner are the other engine advancements of this engine. The top mounted intercoolers of the engine are an icing on the cake making the vehicle a pleasure to ride.
Competition:
Mahindra Xylo is available in four variants namely E2, E4, E6 and E8.
Their prices range approximately between Rs. 6.24 Lakhs and Rs. 8.89 Lakhs.
It competes with the Toyota Innova, Tata Safari, Chevrolet Tavera & ICML Rhino.
