Scorpio is the first Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) launched in India in 2002 by Mahindra & Mahindra Limited. Since then it had undergone many changes and now the latest version attracts more in terms of looks as well as the performance. Mahindra & Mahindra tried to overcome all the deficiencies that were found in Scorpio’s competitors. Now it offers comfort as well as ruggedness whether it is on the off-road tracks or on the busy traffic roads. It also bagged three prestigious awards.
Design and Features:
The new variant of Scorpio after undergoing slight changes to its front and the rear parts, comes with a soft front grill and the tail lamps cluster that are extended from the roof to the bumper. These changes enhance the sporty look of this attractive SUV.
The interiors in Scorpio give a new definition to the comfort of its occupants. The cushioned seats, the good fabric with dual colour themes, the well designed seats stand as the examples for this. The cabin is a spacious one with good head room, leg room and enough space for the luggage. Individual armrests are provided to the front seat occupants. Small storage spaces are also provided in the centre console. Mobile charger facility is also available. The gear knob, the steering wheel with controls, the parking brake, the 2-Din audio system, the centre bezel and the Ac vents in the rear side add to the convenience of the passengers.
Many advanced safety features are provided in the Scorpio. For the first time, Mahindra introduced ABS in Scorpio Mhawk. Some of the safety features that are featured in Scorpio are the Collapsible Steering Column, the cruise control, the fire retardant upholstery, the crash protecting crumple zones, the engine immobiliser, the Intelligent Parking System that warns any obstacle while parking, the rain and light sensors, the tubeless tyres, and the Tyretronics that keeps on updating the exact temperature and air present in each of the tyres.
Driving abilities and comfort:
The front with an independent coil spring and anti-roll bar set up in a 2WD or torsion bar front suspension in a 4WD and the multi link rear suspension together give good ride, handling and stability.
Automatic Transmission is provided only in the top end variant.
Scorpio offers a good driving ability, but only when it travels with lesser speeds. After the launch of its new variant Mhawk, the stability at higher speeds increased a lot.
The Mahindra Scorpio is equipped with a powerful 2179 cc mhawk engine which pumps out a massive power of 120bhp @ 4000rpm and torque of 290 Nm at 1800-2800 rpm. The fuel efficiency and on-road composure has been maximized in the latest models of Scorpio.
It features Bosch Common rail diesel technology with solenoid injectors. The engine has hydraulic lash adjusters and a new 2 stage chain drive system reducing the engine noise. All these give terrific mileage and drivability for the new scorpio.
The SUV does 0-60km/h in just 5.8seconds.
The vehicle comes with both 5 speed manual transmission and an Automatic transmission.
The Scorpio gives an acceptable mileage of 10-12 kmpl.

The prices of these five variants range in between Rs. 6.8 Lakhs and Rs. 11.3 lakhs.
