Car Review on Mitsubishi Outlander

Overview:Mitsubishi Outlander, Price, Reviews, Gallery, Photos, Pictures

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi and Hindustan Motors together in October 2008 launched the Sports Utility vehicle (SUV), the Outlander in India. Before entering into the Indian market, this sporty looked Outlander had gained popularity in many countries like Japan, Australia, Western Europe, North America and Canada. It is a stylish, comfortable and good performance car that suits both business purposes as well as leisure driving.

Design and Features:

The exteriors of this SUV are muscular and elegantly designed. The huge wheel arches, front lighting system (parallelogram shaped stylish head lamps, integrated fog lights), front grill, strong bumper with air intake duct, LED tail lamps, rear wind deflector with high mount LED stop lamp,  chrome plated door handles, wind screen in the rear and colour keyed power door mirrors  add to its aggressive and sportive look.  It comes in seven attractive colours.

The interiors are spaciously, comfortably and luxuriously designed. Outlander can accommodate five passengers. It has a spacious cabin. Soft-touch materials are used for the interiors and the top trims look elegant with the double stitch and the door trims are leather wrapped. The 650W premium Rockford Fosgate sound system is used in this car and its 9 speakers are placed in 7 positions. The dashboard is highlighted with multi information switch and stylish red LCD readouts are designed. However, Outlander looks more sportive outside when compared with the internal features.

Driving abilities and comfort:

The driver’s seat is 4-way electrically adjustable and it also can be folded flatly. The seats are leather wrapped. The one-touch tumble type function of the rear seats makes it easy to fold them for extra luggage space. They are also featured with armrests and cup holders.

The features of comfort include the automatic door locking and head lamp turn off features, paddle shifters and absolutely smooth steering wheel and gear shifts. The Keyless Operating System (KOS), with which the doors can be opened by just touching the door handles and the engine that can be started with out a key, is a feature that enhances the comfort of the passengers.

The Anti-Lock Braking system (ABS) that prevents wheel lock and maintains the steer control, the Electronic Brake-Force Distribution (EBD) that equally distributes the braking force to the rear wheels, the reverse parking sensors, the driver and the passenger air bags, the security alarm and the Reinforced Impact Safety Evolution (RISE) are some of the safety features that are imbibed in the Outlander.

All these features together ensure a controlled, stable and a safe ride in this SUV. The ride quality is good, the steering gives good response and the suspension system provides stability and good control of the drive.

It is powered with a 2.4L MIVEC I4 engine that delivers 168 bhp of power. The engine is mated with a 6-speed INVECS-III CVT with a 6-speed manual mode gearbox. The steering wheel mounted Paddle shifters control the six pre-selected gear ratios. This can propel the outlander to 100kmph in under 9 seconds to max out at 190kmph Which makes it a rather fast SUV. The Mileage of 8kmpl makes it very fuel efficient.

The Outlander offers an option of four wheel drive. It has an advanced suspension system which includes a front MacPherson strut with a  rear multi-link suspension. It provides very good handling on city roads as well as on highways. The Outlander has a very high Ground clearance of 215mm. This ensures that the vehicle can be taken to any rugged terrain with ease.

The Outlander, with its one and only Base petrol variant, competes with the Honda CR-V, Ford Endeavour and Chevrolet Captiva in the Indian market.

It is priced at 20 Lakhs for the only variant available.
